Twelfth Night, Eleventh Post: Last Day of the Year

Dear Friends,

Happy New Year, for crying out loud!

It’s a Monday, which is normally our day off, but we’re working today so we’ll have tomorrow off.  We’re all released at 6:30pm, so we’ve got all evening to celebrate, and all day tomorrow to… keep celebrating!  Of course, for me, “celebrating” means staying in with my wife and dog, watching movies and eating.  I’m actually really excited about it.  Clearly, my life is over.

However or wherever you’re bringing in 2008, here’s an old of Auld Lang Syne (that I found in an article I read once) in a thick Scottish brogue that you can totally impress your friends with.  Join hands, sing loud, and have a Happy New Year.

 Should auld acquaintance be forgot

And never brought to mind?

Should auld acquaintance be forgot

And days of auld lang syne?

Chorus (repeated between stanzas):

For auld lang syne, my dear,

For auld lang syne

We’ll tak a cup o’ kindness yet

For auld lang syne.

And surely ye’ll be your pint stoop

And surely I’ll be mine

And we’ll tak a cup o’ kindness yet

For auld lang syne.

We twa hae run about the braes

And pou’d the gowans fine

But we’ve wander’d mony a weary foot

Sin’ auld lang syne.

We twa hae paidl’d i’ the burn

Frae mornin’ sun till dine

But seas between us braid hae roared

Sin’ auld lang syne.

And here’s a hand, my trusty fiere

And gi’e’s a hand o’ thine

And we’ll tak a right good willy waught

For auld lang syne!
