Twelfth Night, Fifth Post: Third Day

Dear Friends,

On the third day of rehearsal, my true love gave to me: A DAY OFF!

Because we haven’t gotten to Act II in Table Work yet, and because I’ve already had my preliminary costume fitting, I wasn’t called at all.  Which gave me time to get caught up on this blog, among other things.

So since I wasn’t “called” to rehearsal, I’ll talk about, well, what “called” means.  Although we’re given the overall rehearsal schedule at the beginning of the process, we (the actors) are only called to rehearsal for the scenes we’re in (early in the process, anyway.  Towards the end, when we’re doing run-throughs of the entire show, we’re obviously all called).  Our totally on-the-ball stage manager, Lesley Stone, announces the daily call for the next day’s rehearsal one hour after the previous day’s rehearsal.   She posts a printed copy on the Company Board in the lobby, she emails a copy to us individually, and records a voicemail version on the Company Hotline.  So an hour after rehearsal ends, there are lots of ways for us to find out our schedule for the next day, giving us no excuse whatsoever to be late.

Here’s what the Saturday call looks like:
