#46: Thanks!

Dear Friends,
Just a quick thank-you to the surprising number of you that I’ve run into after shows who have said such nice things about this blog.  Thanks for reading!  And a few of you even complimented my eyebrows!  I still haven’t gotten used to them…
One specific shout-out, to my former neighbors, John and Sara, who I discovered unexpectedly [...]

#45: Ladies and Gentlemen, There are Beads on the Stage

Dear Friends,
During our matinee this morning, my bracelet broke.
There’s a point in the play where I find a beaded bracelet on the ground and put it on.  Shortly after that moment, I’m challenged to a fight by Andrew and Sir Toby, and Toby grabs my arm.  Well, today, that broke my bracelet, and we both heard [...]

#44: New Shoes

Dear Friends,
This is such a quick run– our show closes on Superbowl Sunday.  Want to know what I’m doing on Monday?

Conrad Cantzen Shoe Fund

Program Description
In 1945, actor Conrad Cantzen bequeathed his estate to The Actors Fund with the stipulation that it should be used to help actors purchase shoes so they did not appear [...]

#43: I’m Back, Hello, Sorry

Dear Friends,
Ack!  Once again, my apologies for the infrequent posting lately.  I don’t have internet at home, for one thing (I know– can you believe it?  It’s like I’m some sort of caveman or something) and there’s no access at the theater.  Plus I’ve started on several other projects: I’m teaching two classes this semester at Carthage, [...]

#42: Wigged Out

Dear Friends,
So busy!  12-hour days, hourlong commutes and no computer access at the theater have prevented me from posting, but here’s a quick note to tell you that tech week is almost over, and it’s gone very smoothly.  The show looks great.  We perform in front of a preview audience tonight, and we open tomorrow.
I [...]

#41: Tech Week

Dear Friends,
Tech week begins today.  We’ve moved into the space and we have long days ahead– 11am to 11pm some days.  I don’t have computer access at the theatre, so I’ll be posting a little less frequently this week, but I’ll do my best to keep you posted on the highlights.  Until then,
kr

#40: Costume Parade

Dear Friends,
Yesterday’s rehearsal consisted of an afternoon run-through and a Costume Parade in the evening.  We all donned our costumes and showed them off to each other.  There were prizes for the best three runway walks.  I didn’t win.  Really heartbroken about that.
1st place: Andy Truschinski
2nd place: Molly Rhode
3rd place: Travis Knight
Frankly, I think Travis should have [...]

#39: Stage Combat Stories

Dear Friends,
I promised earlier I’d ask around for some good stage-combat related “war stories.”  Here’s what I dug up:
Robert Spencer (Feste):
Many years ago, I was in a production of George Farquhar’s The Beaux Stratagem at St Louis Repertory.  I played Aimwell, one of the Beaux.  Never having had stage combat experience or training, our fight choreographer took me [...]

#38: They Waxed My Eyebrows

Dear Friends,
I mentioned in a previous post that I may be required to get my eyebrows waxed, so my eyebrows would more closely resember my sister’s.  Well, it happened.
Not a highlight of my theatrical career.
If you see me, you’d better compliment my eyebrows.

#37: And Now, Los Angeles

Dear Friends,
I’m hearing from a number of friends who teach that their students are reading this blog (hello, students) so I thought it might be appropriate to continue posting helpful industry-related info.  Yesterday I mentioned Actors Fund workshops in New York; there are also many similar workshops in Los Angeles.  Where New York is the [...]
